Cholesterol values on ProLipid.com are usually indicated as milligrams per deciliter blood (mg/dL). This is the traditional unit for cholesterol measurements still used in the US. You can recognize mg/dL values because they are usually well over 100.

The exception is HDL cholesterol which is usually below 100. Blood glucose measurement may also be lower than 100.

If your cholesterol values are very low (1-7), your laboratory will likely use the unit millimol per liter (mmol/L). Mmol/L is the modern, more scientific unit that is common in Europe and the rest of the world.

If you would like to perform the calculations yourself, please multiply the total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol or HDL cholesterol values by 39 to convert from mmol/L to mg/dL.

Divide by 39 to convert from mg/dL to mmol/L.

Triglyceride values must be multiplied by 89 to convert from mmol/L to mg/dL, and divided by 89 to convert from mg/dL to mmol/L. The factor to convert blood glucose from mmol/L to mg/dL is 18.
